Does the 8502 actually have in-built GPS??

Or does it just suck GPS data from an external GPS?? (If you connect one via the USB port)

I can't get the thing to work (maybe because I'm a Noob) and am starting to wonder whether the Telstra man told me a lie.

Cheers!

Yes it does and it works just fine with TomTom and Google Maps. COM9 is the default.

With the old 6.0 ROM, you need to turn it on in the Wireless Manager. 6.1 turns it on when accessed automatically.

Read the manual?

Thanks Shonky,

I had the hardware port wrong.

It works quite well now!  :)

Well the saga continues!

After getting the GPS to work by setting the GPS Hardware port to COM9 and enjoying Google Maps for a few days its not working again.

It's the same original problem. Whatever value I set for the GPS Hardware port it always reverts back to (none).
And consequently GPS doesn't work anymore.

I've tried :-
- resetting the unit,
- setting the port with GPS switched off,
- not closing the GPS Settings program while using Google Maps.

Any ideas??

Cheers,
Hudson

Are you still on the 6.0 ROM? If so, are you sure it's turned on in the Wireless Controller (Fn + Sym). It will probably turn off if you soft reset it like the wireless does.

Yes still on 6.0 ROM.

It's on in the Wireless Manager (Fn + Sym).

If you set the Hardware port to COM9 and close then re-open the Wireless Manager the hardware port is back at (none).

Needless to say GPS in google maps no longer works.

Weird thing is that it seems to initialise the GPS, and doesn't complain that it can't find a GPS device.
Just always says its failed to track any GPS satellites.
(yes I'm using it outside.. :) )

It all worked wonderfully for about 3 days!!  :(

Cheers!

Ok!  This thing is working again now.

The Solution??

GPS Program Port set to COM9.
GPS Hardware Port set to (none).
GPS Baud Rate set to 4800.
Windows to Manage GPS Port selected under the Access Tab.

I wish I-Mate would actively help in these forums. I think this is the sort of thing an I-Mate tech support person could have sorted out in about 5 seconds.

Anyhoo.
