Since the day I bought my new i-mate Ultimate 9202 and it did it's initial setup, I have had a mystery icon that sits in the status area at the top of the screen (with the time, connection status and so forth)...

This mystery icon, "abc" (exactly as written, without the quotes), does not do anything when I tap on it, is not shown, explained or otherwise mentioned in the manual.

Furthermore, this mystery "abc" icon is present at all times when the status bar is visible, and does not change or animate in any way...

Does anyone know what this icon is, and it's purpose?

Here's my setup...
• Device: i-mate Ultimate 9502
• Operating system: Microsoft Windows Mobile: Professional 6
• Operating system version: 5.2.1623
• Operating system build number: 18129.0.4.5

Here's some other information I dug-up in the Settings ("System Information") - I'm not sure exactly what most of it is, but I wrote-down the ones that appeared to be relevant, and I'm hoping that one of these refers to the version number for my current ROM...
• OEMSBL: 0.90.01.0000
• E-boot version: 0.72.01.0000
• OS version: 1.26.0101.01.000003

Thanks!

It took me time to figure out this one, but i finally did it...  this is to show you that your keyboard is now set to write letter in small characters; if you press CAPS, it'll change to "ABC" & if you oress Function, it'll change to "123"...

So it does!

You think they'd mention it in that poor-excuse-of-a-manual that comes on CD-ROM when you buy your device...

Good to have though - so many PPCs leave you completely in the dark as to what shift state the keyboard is in.

I would have preferred a "traditional" light (like on a keyboard), as featured on the HTC TyTN II - all the "abc" icon does is add more clutter to my system tray/notification area...

But that wouldn't be visible with the keyboard closed (sometimes it's not worth opening the keyboard if entering a short password or replying "OK" etc.)

Well I don't know about you, but MY "abc" icon ONLY changes when I'm using the physical keyboard, which essentially puts it in the same boat as HTC's "traditional" light...
