PLEASE USE THIS THREAD FOR 8502/9502 WM6.1 ROM BUG/ISSUE REPORTS ONLY.

Since the Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM we've been trying out is unofficial and probably a Beta, I thought a thread for Beta testing feedback to i-mate would be useful.

General discussion should go in the main WM6.1 thread.

I'll kick of with a couple of problems I've noted:

1. Camera application is still missing the GPS location taging feature advertised in the User Manual. The camera software is still version 0.72. We need a new (1.0) version of the camera application that has GPS image tagging. And while you're at it, the camera application is very slow, on launch, on capture and on quit.

2. Maximum earpiece in-call volume is still very low (seems unchanged). Note also that minimum speakerphone call volume is too high!

3. GoogleMaps "My Location" feature still doesn't work based on cell tower position, despite working on other WM6.0/6.1 phones. My Location works when Use GPS is turned on, but should work based on phone cell tower location when Use GPS is unselected. GoogleMaps latest version tested (2.1.0.10).

4. Free Program Memory has improved but is still very limited compared to other 128Mb WM6.1 phones.

5. Internet Calling is missing from the Today Settings/Items tab. Internet Calling is a standard feature of WM6.1 (and 6.0) and should be included in the ROM, not omitted.

More anyone?

1) "Select and hold" on email attachments using the joystick runs the attachment, doesn't offer to save. Doing exactly the same with the stylus (tap and hold) offers "save".

2) Apparently Skype voice quality renders it unusable (I haven't personally verified this).

That's it! Quite amazing really - very clean ROM, nice job imate.

Greetings, Mandingo:
Just in case you were not aware, this functionality was identical with the stock ROM from imate so I suppose you are making a suggestion here, rather than report a bug? However, I certainly agree that what you suggest would be an awesome addition to the WM6.1 ROM.
Cordially,
LA6507

I believe it is a bug in the previous ROM too. Selecting once (with button or stylus) should run the item, *select and holding* on an item (with button or stylus) should always provide a context menu, in this case "save ...".

All previous versions/devices I have owned did this correctly.

Timezone gets reset to GMT - 7/22/2008 11:32:10 PM

Another problem - the timezone keeps getting reset to GMT.

Whenever I switch off the phone and switch on again, or if I go into a lift and lose reception then get it back again, the phone timezone changes from my usual GMT+10DST to GMT+0, and all of my appointments have moved by 10 hours. I have to go into the Clock settings and change it back again. And I've checked that the Phone Settings option to get the time from the network is off. It's only happened since upgrading to the pirate 6.1 ROM on the 8502.

Have you tried to enable it again and only change "visiting location"?

Windows freezes/hangs quite often (go figure!!) especially when switching between apps even if there is only 2 programs running. Also the phone gets quite warm while using 2 or more apps at the same time.
(I only have the Telstra supplied software loaded and one third party program (GPStuner))

Active sync wont recognize the phone when it's connected to the computer. I have to restart the computer with the phone connected b4 it does. Then when active sync times out I have to do the same thing again to regain connection

Some random app tries to connect to the Internet regularly even if I shut down all running apps. All auto updates etc seem to be switched off. Freaks me out cause I'd hate to think what my Internet usage might be.

Copied all my sim contacts to the contact manager then selected "Do not load sim contacts" and same in sim manager but both sets of contacts appear all the time

Wish there was somewhere to auto lock the phone with the "lock Device function" and not the password lock.

Quite often find that the ringtones that I set for a alocated contact disapears, therefore i miss so many calls because there is no ringtone

Wish there was a longer setting for the time b4 calls are forwarded to message bank when there is no answer. (As a result of the above)

Processor seems very slow compared to my wife's Samsung i780

No reliable snooze function on the alarm.

Wish the phone function was more user friendly and more like a normal handset than it is.

Can't locate where to turn off call waiting/on hold.

@whatsthatbeeping

Not sure I can help with all your issues (I haven't had these problems) but here's a few suggestions ....

Some random app tries to connect to the Internet regularly even if I shut down all running apps. All auto updates etc seem to be switched off. Freaks me out cause I'd hate to think what my Internet usage might be. *** SETTINGS -> PERSONAL -> PHONE -> ADVANCED TAB -> DISABLE PHONE PACKET DATA SERVICE ***

Wish there was somewhere to auto lock the phone with the "lock Device function" and not the password lock. *** AUTOLOCK ...  http://www.intelliott.com/apps/production/AutoLock/AutoLock2Setup.CAB ***

Wish there was a longer setting for the time b4 calls are forwarded to message bank when there is no answer. (As a result of the above) *** SETTINGS -> PERSONAL -> PHONE -> SERVICES TAB -> CALL FORWARDING -> GET SETTINGS -> FORWARD AFTER ... (30 SECONDS) ***

Thanks Mandingo. Already had fix 1 sorted but still have random app trying to connect. Just got WiFi at home, so hope that hardware log might shed some light on it.

I'll check the link you've kindly posted for auto lock.

30 seconds ain't long enough!! sometimes just personally wish it could be more

Thanks

The 30 seconds forward to voicemail is a feature of the network. Nothing the phone can do I don't think.

I had the same issues with the TYTN II and Blackjack when I updated to 6.1. Not really sure it is a phone problem.....

I have another 'bug' to report. When I load new applications sometimes they do not show up on the 'remove programs' applications meaning I have to manually un-install. Anyone seen this?

I upgraded last week and couldn't be happier.

Fixes and improvements:
8GB SHDC works without fault
SMS is awsome - like MSN
GPS turns on automatically so TomTom doesn't GO SLOW if you forget to enable GPS before starting TomTom
Use to have the odd occasion where the phone got realy hot, hang and then wouldn't easily reset. No such issue yet.
Latest Skype works on WiFi perfectly.
Voice dial works on bluetooth devices

However....
My old i-mate SP5 used to connect automatically to my paired bluetooth devces. 8502 doesn't. Need to turn off and then on again.
The profile manager went mising - how do you enable silent mode or put the screen in landscape without it. Found a CAB for the profile manager and loaded it - now o.k. but thought it should be part of the standard build.
Lost Telstra proxy switch - turns the Telstra proxy on and off.
Lost Telstra home page.

What would also be good:
Be able to change the camera button to something else or disable it. Always pushing it by accident and don't use it much.
Push the scroll wheel to enable the start menu when nothing highlighted on the main screen. More user friendly.

But still very happy.

My 8502 with the same ROM connects automatically - I only have one BT device (car hands free) and it connects as soon as I start the engine.

Scroll wheel push is the same as joystick press (i.e. "select") but if you move your thumb down to the side OK button (or front OK) it will do the same as the Windows button (i.e. enables the start menu) just as you describe.

ery happy.

Hmmm... How did you manage to lose the Telstra stuff and the Profile Manager? Personally I think the Profile Manager has issues - it didn't play well with SPB Phone Suite for one and kept resetting my ringtone to some stupid Alouette one. Just yesterday I disabled (I think completely) it by renaming its DLLs and EXEs

I am on Optus, so I'd be perfectly happy to lose the Telstra rubbish.

Does it still have the NextG animation at boot up?

Sounds like you got a generic upgrade. Where/how did you upgrade?

I had quite a few issues with the 6.1 Beta Rom when I first flashed it.  I did a master reset of the device and most of them have gone away now and I think they were caused by restoring my backed up data with Sprite after applying the new ROM.  Now the only major issue I have is with the device switching itself off randomly and dropping out mid-call.
