Status: offline 		My reasons why the NEW ROM IS A MUST HAVE.
I now have the new ROM. Updated simply & easily, just USE XP and READ THE README INCLUDED. Battery fully charged etc.
THE PHONE IS NOW, WHAT I THOUGHT I WAS GETTING WHEN I BOUGHT IT.
The pie now has zoom/fit to screen etc, awesome on 42" Plasma.
Now has Taskmanager & can shut manually anything.
GPS is auto & works better.edit. Used Copilot live V7 & works a treat. while on GPS, made & received phone calls via bluetooth & looked up Poi then tapped dial to call the Poi then back to GPS. GREAT.
Contacts has right/ left to select contact phone, ie h m etc.
Camera  stills & video works & does not crash. But have not used it much.
Downloads speed test, NextG faster than via my WiFi, 600/700kb/s
Resets soft maybe every few days, WAS every few hours.
Bluetooth works headset to voicedial.
I can listen to media player ON THE BLUETOOTH headset, not just a stereo  but the mono one.
I can listen to media player on external powered speakers via the headphone socket, it works, then it switches to bluetooth headset for answering calls & mutes WMP as it should, hang up & it restarts playing.
Bluetooth connects easily now. Often with no pin required.
Battery life about 30% better.
Free memory 30% more.
Re: Poor video performance, I just copied a WMV 94Mb 320x180 (16:9 format)  27 minute movie to my memory card. Plays PERFECTLY even the racing car scenes are OK voices in sync & no sign of dropped frames. Looks ok on the 42" Plasma... given the lo res file used!!

Problem..... Video calling no longer works. PLEASE can anyone tell me if they still can video call OK?

Status: offline 		Upgraded to the experimental 6.1 ROM without any problems and the results have been extremely successful!! 

The only issue faced with now is Skype crashes on launch, but I knew that Skype doesn't work on WinMobile 6.1 even before doing the upgrade anyway. It's a problem which has nothing to do with imate by itself, rather Skype. And they're working on it, which makes me hope the fixed Skype just will work properly on this device. (Considering that Skype didn't really run properly on imate 9502 with Windows Mobile 6.0 ROM, it's not as if I've lost big functionality as a result of this upgrade.)

Overall very happy after having done this upgrade.

Another Great Great improvement in new ROM is solve of problem in connecting with wifi to wireless ad-hoc .
At original 9502 it said the wireless network is available but never connected. Now the problem is solved and it connects even to non-access point networks like AD-hoc .

Status: offline 		For me is big disatvantage in new ROM is, when i stop talking on the screen left call status, so i need push red button twice to exit to today screen.
So maybe somebody know, how to fix this????

Status: offline 		I am experiencing "please reconnect to PC and run the upgrade again" white screen of death. none of the buttons are responsive (and I mean none of them) and accordingly both soft and hard resets do not work. I know I've bricked the phone and I requested for a RMA but no response for couple of days. I figure I'll have to send it in, but I was wondering if there was any other way to restore the phone to factory setting by any other means desides sending my phone away and having to possibly spend money or wait endlessly for I-mate support. any one w/ any idea would greatly be appreciated. thanks

Status: offline 		Have you tried any of the suggested fixes yet ed3013? A few of us have had problems and so far I think they've all been helped out of the "please reconnect" mode.

Arturik....not sure I completely understand about pressing the red button twice. Do you mean you press it once to hang up and once again to exit to the today screen? If that's the case, this is what every winmo 6.1 device I've had does. I believe it's what most 6.0 devices do as well.

Status: offline 		Installed the new ROM without any problems, using WindowXP Home Edition. The phone really now works as a QUALITY device now. I have lost my Pocket Arabizer which was not part of this ROM, but I can live without it for sometime till i-Mate issues the final version of this ROM which I hope will contain this application.

Other to that, lot of good features in WM6.1 and lot lot of fixes and the phone seems to work more smoother now.

Status: offline 		ed, try the Vista trick on a borrowed machine...hopefully you know someone with vista :). Mine refused to update on XP and got stuck at that dreaded screen until I tried to update it on my Vista laptop out of desperation. That was what finally worked for me.

Status: offline 		I just discovered this thread yesterday.

I'm amazed at what an improvement this ROM makes to the phone. At first i was a little nervous about applying an unsupported build, but in the end I couldn't resist.

The info that was posted over on the other forum sites helped a lot - successfully applied the update on Vista after updating the driver for the USB device and _then_, once it still errored, popping out the battery, plugging in the usb, and then putting the battery back in.

I'm having issues occasional syncing over bluetooth now, but i think that's more to do with the computer i'm syncing with rather than the phone itself.

But yeah, I'm really looking forward to the final build of this ROM. It's nice to see they can get it right eventually.

As I updated in the Skype thread:

With this cooked, working version of Windows Mobile 6.1, I was able to install and run a cooked version of Skype version 2.2.0.45 BETA, links for which have been posted in that thread. I tested calling the Skype Echo service and heard back my own voice perfectly fine. This is the first time ever I've been able to run Skype on my mobile, all running the best versions of ROM!!! WhooooooooFreakingHooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!! I'm excited. iMate 9502 Skype issues with Windows Mobile 6.1 have now been solved! From my personal standpoint, this solves the final piece of puzzle which I had been blocked on, and I can declare victory on the WinMobile 6.1 ROM upgrade project.

Caveat: Tested Skype with WiFi connectivity as well as 3G connectivity. Found out that with 3G it works less than desirable, as in there is occasional drop of audio (both mine as well as the other side). However with WiFi connection, it works flawlessly. This whole thing is still less than ideal. But as I said before, since this is the first time ever I got any Skype running on my mobile I'm thrilled!

Yep, you have had a sale to me, but you won't get another.  Just fix the thing and you may recover some lost ground, but maintain this arrogant denial and the new ROM will be a waste; we will all have taken our business elsewhere.

Status: offline 		I tried one last time to update the device after many failed attempts before sending the device to PocketPCtech. I deleted all the programs related to my phone and checked my harddrive volume for error and then re-installed the windows mobile device center and gave it a go one last time. And to my happy surprise it worked. Thansk for those w/ suggestions. My device really works like it should have to begin w/.
